Tumeric for a healthy brain
Have you had your turmeric yet this week?
I recommend you start eating tumeric,
Why?
Read what scientists are saying about Tumeric
In a recent post from NICABM, Ruth Buczynski, Phd talked about the neuroplastic possibilities of curcumin (a brain-boosting chemical in turmeric) for slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Did that convince you to start eating it? If not, consider this my second attempt.
Slowing the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease isn’t the only benefit from eating turmeric.
We were curious and so did a PubMed search. We came across so many other important studies on curcumin that we had to share some of them with you.
Let’s start with some more brain benefits.
A randomized, controlled study published in the journal PLoS ONE looked at the neurogenetic potential of prolonged curcumin use.
Neurogenesis is the process by which neurons are created in the brain, including in the hippocampus (one of the centers of neural learning).
Researchers led by Z. Zhao out of the Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics, Shanghai, China looked at performance and brain growth in rats after 6 and 12 weeks on a curcumin-fortified diet.
(I hope those sweet rats got something tasty.)
The result?
Curcumin enhanced memory (both spatial and non-spatial), as well as hippocampal cell growth compared to rats in the control group.
But in addition to brain health, curcumin has been linked to:
- The slowing of prostate tumor growth (S. A. Shah et al. Cancer Research, 2012)
- Prevention and treatment of tendinitis (C. Buhrmann et al. Journal of Biological Chemistry, 2011)
- Increasing the effectiveness of drugs used to fight colon, neck and head cancers (I. Aroch et al. Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, 2010 and W. M. Abuzeid et al. Archives of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, 2011)
Expel the Venom
Balance the Rhythm of Spring
Expel the Venom!
The energy of spring is about manifestation and moving forward. Spring is a great time to rid yourself of anything that holds you back. In the olden days, people ate bitter greens to help remove toxins that accumulated over the winter.
There's a great exercise to help remove unwanted energies and make room for new, vibrant energy. It's called, "Expelling the Venom" (also called the Blow Out) and is especially effective at balancing the Rhythm of spring to make sure you don't get stuck or angry. It only takes a few minutes to do.
When you are feeling stuck or want to find the righteous anger within you:
- Stand with your hands on your thighs, fingers spread, and take a deep breath.
- With a deep inhalation, make fists out of your hands and swing your arms out to your sides and complete the circle by bringing them high above your head.
- With a loud "Shhhhhhhhhh" as you exhale, bring your fisted hands down swiftly, opening them as they reach toward the ground.
- Bring to mind the source of your anger and make your movements quick and forceful. Repeat three times.
- For a fourth time, feel your muscles and power unfolding as you slowly and deliberately circle your arms up and then pull your arms down as you exhale.
- Repeat until you feel the unbalanced energy dissipate.
New Year New You
How many times have you heard that? one, ten, one hundred!
Have you started with a list of resolutions you secretly know you won't keep?
Maybe you have already stopped them. Out of 60% of people who make resolutions only 4% go on and keep them going until June before they let them go.
Don't put yourself through it!
Be Yourself, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
What do you want to have by this time next year?
Imagine yourself in that place experiencing it, draw it, paint it, write it, dance it or go mad and do all that!
You don't need a New You, you want the magic of all you can be.
So go on let your imagination run wild and then...Just take the first step, then another, then another...get my drift.
After all how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!
Let's make 2012 the best year ever. Hold onto your hat and enjoy the ride!
Three Key Objectives for 2012
Well done, you made it!!
You've got to the end of another year.
This is a special time just after Christmas and before the next year kicks off. A lull that we can take full advantage of to reflect on our achievements in 2011, and more importantly to decide what we would like to be reflecting on this time next year.
So, when you are sitting here on 30th December 2012 looking back at the year, what will you have achieved?
To help you to really focus on what you want answer this.
If 2012 were to be your last year on earth what would you like to leave behind you and how would you like to be remembered, where would you go and who would you like to spend time with?
Now write down the three key things you want to achieve and experience in this coming year. Use language to express yourself that fully connects you to these experiences.
At the end of each day ask yourself...is what I've done today moving me closer to fulfilling my achievements?
Keeping this in your line of vision will keep your dreams alive and real. Focusing daily on the outcome brings the Universe and you into alignment. You can have all of it and you deserve too.
Have a wonderful 2012.
Overcome the Stress of Christmas
This time of year increases our levels of stress. Finishing year end projects, last minute jobs getting thrown into the mix, balancing resources and budgets, juggling our finances. And then there's Christmas!
Planning, shopping for presents, shopping for food, getting the tree and decorating the house.
How do you manage? Is your head in a spin, your life in a whirl?
Are you keeping a I'll get around-to-it list or are you listing and prioritising your jobs daily?
- Make a list.
- Keep your list short and sweet otherwise you will become overwhelmed.
- Take the top three items and complete before you do anything else.
- What do I need to do for me? Do it!
- What can I delegate? Delegate it!
- Delete all unnecessary jobs, stay focused.
- Get to sleep before midnight so you wake refreshed the following morning.
Get all you shopping done by the 23rd and enjoy Christmas.
CONFIDENCE
Waking up in the morning, rolling over and turning the alarm off, thinking what day is it? Then...Oh God I've got that meeting today, or I can't put off that phone call another day. Feelings of nervousness in the pit of your stomach wishing it was another day and you had the meeting or phone call over with.
OR
Waking up energised and buzzing to get to work, looking forward to that important meeting with a prospective client, enjoying the thought of making that all important call. Jumping out of bed and into the shower....

Focus and Intention For The Day
Hi,
Today is International Peace Day.
I'd like to invite you to just stop for a minute in your busy day today and focus on your internal state.
How are you? Agitated and unfocused? Restless? Calm?
Take a moment to really focus on what is happening right now in your body and start to follow your breath.
Keep you attention on your breath and breathe through any tension in your body until it dissipates and you relax.
Reside in this for a full minute and then turn your attention to the world around you and send your intention for peace to anyone or any part of the world you choose to, maybe even the whole earth, it needs your support!
Yesterday I went for the first time to The National Ploughing Competition. What a sense of community and camaraderie there was amongst the thousands of people who went.
After walking around the show's stalls amid the thousands of people I found myself wanting to connect with the reason for the show. Now I'm a bit of a horse lover and so I took myself off to watch the horse ploughing.
It was a relief to get away from the crowds and walk out across the fields, past the tractors, new and vintage to the very far end of the field. As I walked I enjoyed the air and open vista around me, watching as people relaxed enjoying the spectacle of the ploughing until I got to the horses.
How magical and what a lesson to be learnt from these magnificent creatures,.
Man and horse working in perfect harmony, totally in the present moment, utterly focused, trusting and respecting of each other.
It was such a joy to stop and just be present in the moment with them.
Todays tip: Focus in the moment on what needs attention now. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
My thanks to the horses and their owners for the gentle reminder.
